I'm not sure I understand this dep. Either these two packages, or these
two packages and a lot more? When would the second one ever happen?

This looks a bit weird.

It means these two packages or any one of the following I think.

Looks like it's a silly hack that relies upon the resolver taking the
first available option if nothing's installed. So if the user already
has any one of the listed packages, it does nothing, otherwise it
installs the two in their own block.

Which is rather perverse, and doesn't have the desired effect anyway,
since one of the listed options could well be pulled in as an earlier
dep anyway, in which case the pair wouldn't be chosen even if the user
previously had none of those packages.

Either way, those are just runtime deps.

Wouldn't it be best to drop them from the ebuild and add an einfo
printing out this list of possible driver packages and let users decide
which one they are going to use?

Whoever it was, whatever it was, nobody deserves to have his/her work
to be qualified this way. All of us (including you) would benefit of a
more neutral language. Although not totally offensive, you're walking
a fine line here. Please make sure this little quirk of yours doesn't
bite us (that includes you again) anymore.

Thanks in advance.
Denis.

I'm guessing you're not a native English speaker. Please leave such
commentaries to those who are, since your misunderstandings are only
going to cause offence where none previously existed.

Gentoo is a worldwide project, so i guess many of the contributors are
not native speakers. See the gentoo-devs all over the world [1] as an
example. Okay english is the common language here, but is it that
difficult to articulate in a way that everybody can understand and not
to use words which could easily be misunderstood.

Lucky you are that your native language is one of the world's most
widely spoken languages. Imagine to express yourself in a language you
are not familiar with!

I hope everybody can understand this, as i am not a _native speaker_ too!

Please do not argue with him. He does this kind of baiting once in a
while in search of some action. My previous message was only a
seasonal reminder of the fact that we know that he knows what his
problem is, although he is naive enough to think we are naive enough
to play with him.

Are they inconditional runtime deps? This looks like another case
where RECOMMENDS would be useful.

And when not speaking in my native language, I made damned sure I'm not
just misunderstanding something before going around making all sorts of
unfounded accusations in public.

So saying that a nasty hack is a nasty hack is not allowed these days?

Hi calchan, I'm at a loss to understand which part of his email you
found offensive, even with your quoting. Perhaps you're just being
silly or have some perverse need to attempt to subvert this list, I
don't really care. What I do know is that trying to make yourself look
clever on a public mailing list is probably a bad idea. I think
dirtyepic said it best when he said "Let's stop this thread here

Please try to be the better man here and discontinue this current line
of thinking. I ask you, instead, to look at Denis' email as a friendly
reminder to keep things on a more civil level. As a native English
speaker, I didn't see anything wrong with your comments, as they were
directed towards code, not a person. Were the same comments made
towards a person, yes, it would be offensive. Since not all of us are
native speakers, sometimes just the simple replacement of a word can
help change the tone to those of us not born in an English speaking
country.

I've noticed your civility of late and want to encourage you to
continue. I would like to apologize if you feel ass if you've been
baited or anything. I know Denis and know that wasn't really his
intention, but rather to remind you (and others) to try to think about
the word choices we make. Had you said "odd" instead of perverse, we
wouldn't likely be having this conversation, though you and I know the
functional meaning of the two words in that context are nearly
identical. This is mostly the case with words with multiple meanings,
where non-native speakers might not know all of the alternate meanings
and can misinterpret your words. I know it has happened to me quite a
few times.

Thanks,
