Hello developers,
I have an idea concerning Gentoo Live Distro. As a
Live Distro, it is essential that it is trimmed,
leaving the biggest space available for application.
However, in order to trim it we certainly can NOT
include drivers of ALL kind of hardwares imaginable,
thereby it render some Gentoo user with no driver
included in the distro. My suggestion is that possible
to change its installation seqence so when it discover
that the hardware drivers is NOT avilable, it will
AUTOMATICALLY download it from a certain website and
install it all by itself. So as long as the user can
connect to the internet(So we should MAXMIZE the LAN
driver support), his/her basic i/o device supported;
s/he can use all his/her hardware under Gentoo. It
will save all the trouble for new Gentoo user to
search all over the internet.
What do you think?

So, you want to replace compiled drivers with some software, and a huge
database of all the hardware in the world, along with wher to download it
from, etc. etc., and hope that nobody decides to move stuff on their
servers, becasue then everybody's live cd's are worthless. Not that I'm
saying your idea is without merit, but you certainly would have to find a
way to make it seamless. You can't Joe Dialup downloading 26 megs of tarball
just so he can get his mouse working.
