* [gentoo-dev] Change Bugzilla status to IN_PROGRESS when pull request is linked

For convenience, would it be possible to automatically change the status
of bugs from (UN)CONFIRMED to IN_PROGRESS when Larry The Cow attaches a
pull request? I tend to forget to change the status myself, and perhaps
I am not alone in feeling my age in that fashion. ;-)

I'm not sure if this is universally desirable. Someone linking a pull
request to somebody else's package does not necessarily mean that
the latter person is working on it.

Personally, I interpret a bug status of IN_PROGRESS as "somebody is
working this bug", not "the assignee is working this bug". The latter
is not as important to the bug state anyway, don't you think?

Please do not implement this.

If you want the "somebody is working on it", then you can just look at
the comments and linked PR already.

But if somebody other than myself marks something I'm responsible for
as "IN PROGRESS" when I've made no such commitment, and haven't even
reviewed the PR for being even tangentially valid, I would be pretty
annoyed.

Because it confers some degree of officalness to it, and no
officialness is granted by having simpley a PR.

After opening a bug, one can of course see all kinds of information. ;-)
The nice thing about the status field is that it is usually displayed in
bug list overviews, and that one can sort by it.

In any case, if this feature is not to everybody's taste, it would need
to be made a configurable option. That, I fear, would be too much effort
when compared to the benefit the feature brings. /me shrugs

I am against this, for the same reason as Michał and Kent - to me "in
progress" means "the maintainer is working on it", not "someone has just
made a PR on GitHub which the maintainer may or may not accept".
