Hi,
i think the portage is cool, but lack in working with precompiled binary
packages. I know Gentoo is "from source" distribution, but just small
patch will cover also this area. What if ebuild fetch check if there is
--usepkg (-k) option and if yes to download in
/etc/portage/packages/All. From here the process continue like normal.
Also maybe some variable (BINMIRROR or similar) will be need in
/etc/make.conf.
