heres an idea, in the case of an emerge -U world, instead of postponing
F-related packages, portage could ask for all of them to be downloaded up
front. might require a new variable, but I think that feature would make
emerge world's more smooth.

I'm sorry for not producing a patch, but I'm not exactly sure where
the emerge documentation source is located. :-)
[ebuild F ] media-video/realplayer-8-r6
The realplayer ebuild requires you to download sources
manually for it to install the package. Instructions on how
and what to download is usually given by the package when you
attempt to install it. Please not that currently, portage
will halt the merge process when it reaches such a package.
