I have had problems with 2 packages on my system. First is avi-xmms will
not ./configure since it cannot find xmms though xmms was merged fine, in
fact I was using it. Next is xmovie which merges fine but spits this error
up >>> Install xmovie-1.7 into /tmp/portage/xmovie-1.7/image/ category
media-video /usr/lib/portage/bin/dobin: xmovie/i486/xmovie is not executable
or does not exist
man:
info:
strip:
>>>Completed installing into /tmp/portage/xmovie-1.7/image/

I'm now trying to emerge xmovie-1.6 to see if that works. If I have time
tonight after homework (ugh :o) maybe I can solve the problems but kinda
want to see if anyone else has the same problem as I do?

So long and see you all later..

Can you please log the compilation fron xmovie to a file and send me
that thing?
Here the binary got build in the i686 subdir. I assumend it uses CHOST's
ix86 as the name
for the subdir. Sounds like I'm wrong.
Additionally I need a file called config.log from your avi-xmms build
dir
/tmp/portage/avi-xmms-1.2.2-r1/work/avixmms-1.2.2 to check what problem
you got.

bye achim~

Hi michael,

I fixed this problem, update your portage tree and try again, it should
work now.
Please send me the config.log file from avi-xmms, it works fine here and
I dunno what
caused the problem on your machine.

bye achim~

Um, sorry I've gotten distracted....but I tried to run avi-xmms again after
unmerging xmms and few gnome and remerging those and that fixed the problem!
I'm sure you don't mind though and it works fine here. I think what
happened is I merged in xmms but unmerged some of gnome because I just
wanted xmms instead of all of gnome, and then tried to merge in avi-xmms and
something was not sitting right with the system. But it works fine now....

I am just about to sync my portage tree and thanx for fixing the problems.
I noticed that the scripts for pacakges are pretty simple so hopefully I can
start building packages sometime here. Thanx again for the help and talk to
you later.

Naz

In the future, you *should* be able to avoid this problem by removing "gnome"
from your USE variable in /etc/make.conf. Then, no optional gnome support will
be compiled-in to apps; this will also mean that many things will no longer
depend on gnome, making your life easier.

Best Regards,
