If no-one else is considering it, I might have a look at downloading
base kernel + patches rather than 23M every time (gets boring over 56k
dialup!).

Anyone else here still in the dark ages?

You can use whatever kernel you want to with gentoo, the only limitation
is that if you are using XFS you have to have a kernel with XFS...

personally I'm using a 2.4.19-pre4-ac3-preempt kernel, you can get
rml's patches at http://www.tech9.net/rml/linux and the ac patches
at http://www.kernel.org have fun!

Hi,

I just liked to ask where those nifty RML-patches have gone? I really miss
the preempt and lockbreak patches. Do I really have to stick with 2.4.17-r5?

Thanx in advance - Urs Andrew

A real estate agent, looking over a farmer's house for possible sale,
commented to the farmer how sturdy the house looked.
The farmer replied, "Yep, built it with my bare hands... did it
the hard way. The steps to the front door, here, carved 'em out of
field stones... did it the hard way. That hardwood floor in the living
room, dovetailed the pieces myself... did it the hard way. The ceiling
beams, made 'em out of my own oak trees... did it the hard way."
Just then, the farmer's gorgeous daughter walked in. The farmer
looks over at the real estate agent who is trying not to stare too
obviously and smiles. "Yep... standing up in a canoe."

OK. Brandon. I got this. (And patched RMLkernels on several boxes, too.) But
I didn't get the point, why someone should not implement those BY DEFAULT ...

I fell asleep reading a dull book,
and I dreamt that I was reading on,
so I woke up from sheer boredom.
