[gentoo-dev] proxy-maintainers herd as a backup herd for all the user-maintained packages

Hi,

A number of packages in the tree are maintained by a Gentoo developer
and a user. As a result of which, we are unable to monitor these
packages in bugzilla. This is useful in case one of the maintainers
goes MIA so we can find an alternative maintainer for them. So I am
kindly asking you to add the proxy-maintainers herd as a backup herd
for the packages that you proxy-maintain. I will go ahead and do it
myself in two weeks if you don't want to bother fixing your metadata.
If you want your packages to be excluded please let me know. This is
mainly for tracking purposes and we don't intend to take over the
maintainership of your packages (unless you want us to).

Excellent idea. But how will proxy-maint@ devs know not to "take over"?

This is happening today. There are about 390 packages that need fixing
so I will take care all of them (and CC proxy-maint on open bugs as
well)

Does this include herd ?

For ml stuff, I usually put ml herd + non-gentoo proxy maint, meaning:
anyone with some knowledge of ml (ie in the herd) can commit, there is
no specific communication method with the non-gentoo maintainer, so
there is no need for me to be listed there.

Now, these packages have proxy-maint as co-herd, and I'd prefer people
that are not familiar with ml (ebuilds have their set of specificities)
not to blindly commit packages because it's proxy-maintained.

Up to you but it will help us track packages maintained by users so we
can find another maintainer if they ever go MIA.

I made it clear on my previous emails that we do not intend to touch
packages maintained by other @gentoo people or herds unless
proxy-maint is the only herd in metadata. If someone violated that,
then it's best to inform him about this, in case he forgot.
