So, you want to replace compiled drivers with some software, and a huge 
database of all the hardware in the world, along with wher to download it 
from, etc. etc., and hope that nobody decides to move stuff on their 
servers, becasue then everybody's live cd's are worthless. Not that I'm 
saying your idea is without merit, but you certainly would have to find a 
way to make it seamless. You can't Joe Dialup downloading 26 megs of tarball 
just so he can get his mouse working.
