Hi all,
I thought I'd post a message here for those who'll miss it on the
www.gentoo.org newspage: quote:
Lamer (also known as Ben Lutgens of Sistina Software, Inc.) asked me to
announce the semi-official Gentoo Linux Hackfest, this weekend (Aug 17-19) in
the #gentoo IRC channel on the Open Projects IRC Network. The goal of this
Hackfest is to allow Gentoo Linux users to report bugs and have Gentoo Linux
developers fix them on CVS/rsync in real time! Great idea, lamer!
-- drobbins, on www.gentoo.org
Hope the event'll be great!

Kinda like a bug-squashing party. It's an all hands request for all of you
to stop by and bug us about bugs.
Note to Devs: If you can't make it, that's cool. It's just a request. I'd
also advise that when you're hack hack hacking on something, to do an
/away "fixing bug in package foo" so anyone who /msg's you will know you're
occupied.

Hi!
This is a very good idea, I'll probably join friday and some on the day
(in Sweden GMT+2) on saturday and probably most of sunday. Let's get
together and fix up lots of things. And perhaps also get some hacking on
Gentoo tools done :)

I think I can get very close to releasing a full-blown rc6 prototype sys
image sometime on Friday night or Saturday. Should be fun!

Could we wait untill maybe monday? I think it might be beneficial to wait
untill all our users ( Hope you all come tell us what's buted ) have a
chances to get us to fix the bugs they found this weekend.
I'm all for relasing another rc, but I'd hate to preempt the results of the
bug squishing party on irc.

How about a limited edition rc? Some of us need to get current quickly
if we're gonna be able to do anything productive...

rc5 is around a month old I think. portage is always up to date.

Let's try this again. I thought we established that the kernel in rc5
w/my combination of hardware leads to fs corruption.
Likewise, I thought that at this point it is still unwise to
unmerge/remerge baselayout. That's stuff that I need to check out for
some of the things I'm working on...

I think "prototype" was the operative word here. While we are squashing
package bugs, we can also squash rc6 build cd bugs! Then, maybe we can
get a real rc6 iso image out the door for all users.
Did I miss something?

Well, I seriously doubt we'll get the ISO image done by the end of the weekend,
but I'd like to have a prototype rc6 sys image for people to test sometime
today or early tomorrow. Then maybe we can have a working version complete
early next week, which can then be given to the tools, desktop and server teams
so they can begin fixing and testing their packages in parallel.
