i am a KDE guy, but my wife needs gnucash...when i do an emerge --pretend 
gnucash, i get:

this seems a bit excessive.  just to choose one thing, why do i need the 
blackdown jdk to run gnucash??  do i really even need gnome?

now, let me rave for a moment about gentoo...it rocks!  i really like the 
philosophy and implementation.  you've done excellent work.

I remember that gnucash is *horrible* for dependancies.... that doesn't
seem excessive at all (especially if you don't have the gnome libs
already).

Try removing java from your USE flags if its already there.

try:
USE="-gnome -java" emerge -p gnucash

maybe this will cut down the list a bit.
