I've had both ext3 and XFS kill data for me, reiserfs hasn't. yet.
and I run reiserfs on around 20 boxes, some in production with a
24/7 demand, and yes, I use NFS with reiserfs.

although, XFS with Gentoo is nice since our very nice developers
have fixed kernels with support for everything out of the box. I
plan on testing XFS again this month, and see how it does this time
around. ext3 has been touch and go for me, but we run it on
workstations where I work. we just don't use it for large server
volumes. one reason is the lack of the ability online resize.

my machine (duron 1GHz, gigabyte mobo/via VT82C686A chipset) was randomly
crashing during install of gentoo while using ext3. once I switched to
xfs I had no problems. I havent seen ext3 fail like this on any other
machines. Also, this was with the 1.1a install cd.

I am using reiserfs without any problem on my desktop box and I fully
recommend it.
I tried both ext3 and xfs few months ago and I switched to reiser after
having xfs corrupt my disk (I am using ataraid, my problem has already been
discussed on xfs mailing list, no solution was provided or I was just not
able to find it) and ext3 has some problems with processor usage. Copying a
700 MB iso file was taking about 100% of my processor time... I believe it
was journal updating... No such problem with reiserfs

I experienced those crashes too on a similar setting (athlon 1.4, and
via chipset) After a new kernel everything stopped crashing though.
