I think we all agree savedconfig isn't an ideal implementation, if we
were able to offer something better I don't think downstream would be
clamoring to add more packages to maintain.
Not that I personally have any idea how to improve the situation. I like
the idea of use_expand but that seems to get ugly really fast.
