Robin,
I noticed that I just wanna get out of work pretty desperately right
now. :) I noticed that the kernel did load the nvidia module, so you must
emerged it. Just disregard my last msg.

Subject: [gentoo-dev] new gentoo linux sources
Hi all,
I have tried to get this to work
First I tried switching on nearly all the new stuff, except the stuff I
obviously was never going to use.
X refused to start, all I got was a blank screen.
Then I tried using my 2.4.19 config with preempt and the low latency
scheduling.
Now my USB mouse refuses to work and I have 'funny' messages in my
startup.
I have attached the output of dmesg.
Can anyone help??
Many Thanks,
Robin

I had a similar mouse problem and realized I was missing one important
kernel setting:
Under USB make sure you have:
"HID Input Layer Support" enabled
Of course, USB must be enabled plus
"Input Core Support" and "Mouse" under there.
Hope this helps (and you haven't done what I keep doing which is
forgetting to mount /boot before I copy the new kernel over
there...grin...)

Robin,
One thing I think I spotted. Your X server problems... You are using
the Nvidia provided drivers, aren't you? When you upgrade your kernel, don't
forget to re-emerge the nvidia-kernel package. I am not sure about your usb
mouse however.

Hi Gontran,
I'm afraid I did recompile the nvidia-drivers.
This was a case of having a constant blank screen, not the 'flash,
flash, flash, flash, command line prompt' that you usually get.
full hid support was in. As I say, it was basically the same config
file I used for my current (working) kernel.
What's the 'southbridge workaround'?
Many Thanks,
Robin
