Subject: [gentoo-dev] Changing the order of ICD loaders in virtual/opencl
Date: Fri, 14 May 2021 16:53:45 +0200 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <45d5abf1-3e46-38b6-cfe7-c78a154083b3@gentoo.org> (raw)
Dear all,
Seeing as it has been around year since we added
dev-libs/opencl-icd-loader to the tree, I wonder whether it would
perhaps make sense to make it, rather than dev-libs/ocl-icd, the
preferred OpenCL ICD loader for new installations.
Advantages (that I can see) of opencl-icd-loader:
- official OpenCL ICD loader of the Khronos Group
- as a consequence of the above, is kept in good sync with official
Khronos Group OpenCL headers (dev-util/opencl-headers)
- pure C with a fairly minimal set of dependencies, in particular does
not does not bdepend on Ruby
Advantages (that I can see) of ocl-icd:
- has been around for longer
WDYT?
PS. Thank you ionen for reminding me of this.
