I am not against the ideas in this=20 GLEP. It's are good ideas. However, you cannot push something that is=20 not there, and you cannot say you *have* to push it because other ways=20 don't work -- ways which aren't yet explored. News items as described=20 have never been published before, IMHO, and hence the effect of=20 un-filtered, un-personalised publishing of these news items is *not*=20 known. I would priorise on getting them published somehow, and in the=20 meanwhile continue on this GLEP from another perspective: "personalising=20 news messages based on the user's portage". Such GLEP can elaborate=20 much more on support for mailing automatically to root or another user,=20 pushing forcibly on the screen or reading via 'news-update', just to=20 suit every installation/user scenario that we can dream up. It also is in the two separate issues that you snipped from my previous=20 mail. I think we're not going to agree here, so to prevent any more lengthy=20 discussions over gentoo-dev on this topic, you can contact me off-list. --=20 Fabian Groffen Gentoo for Mac OS X Project -- Interim Lead --=20 gentoo-dev@gentoo.org mailing list
