Hi all,

As a request for help regarding the xbox platform I'm sending this
email. This platform is badly neglected and as we don't officially
support this, we need a volunteer to pick up the support of xbox-sources
before it gets removed from the tree.

If no suitable candidates are found, then I will remove it from the tree
at the next cleanup spree in a few weeks.

Regards,
John Mylchreest

The xbox platform is officially supported but experimental. There is
an active mailing list gentoo-xbox@gentoo.org which you can browse on
the usual archives. As of yesterday we even have a user contributed
wiki page at http://gentoo-wiki.com/Gentoo_for_Xbox

I'm not sure where you've gotten the idea that xbox isn't being supported.

Ah, in that case I wasn't aware.
there is however no one part of the xbox herd.
The question however remains the same, we need a maintainer.

"Supported" means it has an architecture team, a security liason, and an
available public developer machine.

The xbox is completely unsupported by Gentoo, given the Gentoo
definition of supported.

xbox is just x86 ... that means it has an architecture team and a security
liason

Well, it's just x86 architecture.. and does anybody really want a
public dev machine? It's just a slow PC with less than usual RAM.

I hope that it stays because Gentoo Linux on an XBox is very cool. I
am a Linux geek and wish to see Linux on everything and the XBox is no
exception. Being that Gentoo is my favorite distro.......

I would actually love to do some development on an xbox (it has
intrigued me ever since they came out). However, I do not own an xbox.
If anyone could help me get one (even a used one), I'd be glad to do
some dev work for gentoo-xbox.

Or alternatively at least five active developers with their own machines
instead of a "public" machine.

Xbox-sources has multiple pending security bugs against it, and is
unmaintained. As such, it is going into package.mask in the next few days,
and will be removed from the tree 30 days after it goes into package.mask if
no one takes over maintaining.

Following up from IRC earlier:

You're interested in maintaining this until a new maintainer is found.

Are you prepared to handle the security bugs here? Alternatively we
could either put it in hardmask until a maintainer is found, or we could
slap a warning in the ebuild saying that it's not supported from a
security perspective, or something along those lines.
