[gentoo-dev] Some ideas of "improving" Gentoo

Hi,

many thanks for this marvellous distribution of Gentoo !

Only some ideas how to improve it a little bit:

1. Wouldn't it be a good to make all the binaries in /bin and /sbin 
statically linked?

This is standard with the BSD's and has the big advantage of having at 
least some rudimentary commands working if some important libraries get 
damaged or lost.

2. Could emerge output be set to non-colored mode (e.g. when output 
stream is not a TTY or $TERM is not set)? That would a big help if your 
terminal doesn't support colors, or not that kind of color codes, or you 
want to use some filter program (like less).
