Hi,
I plan on using Access Control Lists on Ext3 filesystems. How do I get them
working on Gentoo? According to acl.bestbits.at, the requirements are:
- Kernel with ACL enabled
I am using 2.4.19-gentoo-r5 with ACL enabled. I am wondering if this is
because the gentoo kernel has the acl patch applied or if these patch are now
included in the official kernel?
- E2fsprogs needs to be patched
The ebuild for e2fsprogs does not seem to check for the acl USE flag and it
doesn't seem to apply the acl patch either. Is someone working on this case?
this seems like a minor thing to fix.
- attr and acl packages
The description in the ebuild files for these packages state:
acl-20020330.ebuild: XFS dump/restore utilities
attr-20020330.ebuild: xfs extended attributes tools
Although acl.bestbits.at state that the XFS and Ext2/3 packages are now the
same. So these packages should be working on Ext3 right?
- Fileutils
This package also needs to be patched. The ebuild does seem to get and apply
the xdelta patch from acl.bestbits.at, which is nice.
Thank you,
Cedric

Hi,
(I'm a new gentoo user)
I use xfs with acls and it works.
I added USE "acl" in /etc/make.conf in early installation.
compiled fileutils and star.
I used ext2 acls on another distro; it used the same
userland libraries for both xfs and ext2/3, so it should work
here to.
Of course you need the patched e2fsprogs; sorry, I can't help.
Marko
