I'm currently working on a Gnome Frontend for Portage (currently named
GnoPortage *grin*). Working on it is still at the primitive level, I'm
designing the interface right now and how it will get package info, etc...

In order to minimize re-coding (I have all summer to do this, then I will
be back in school, so I would prefer to only work on bugs and not
features) I was curious where I could get some info about Portage 2. I
figure we will be there soon, considering we are at 1.9.x something right
now. Also, if there is a Gnome developer out there I would love to get
their feedback on my GUI design to see if they like/dis-like it, or have
suggestions. Thanks.

In the beginning there was data. The data was without form and
null, and darkness was upon the face of the console; and the Spirit of
IBM was moving over the face of the market. And DEC said, "Let there
be registers"; and there were registers. And DEC saw that they
carried; and DEC separated the data from the instructions. DEC called
the data Stack, and the instructions they called Code. And there was
evening and there was morning, one interrupt.

Hm reminds me of what i did a while ago, i made a basic portage tree
browser in Python. I put the latest incarnation here
http://sesmar.eu.org/genview/ if you want to have a look at it. Needs
libglade, PyGTK and gnome-python. It's basic, but i use it a lot for
just checking the tree and searching it. This particular version i never
put online btw, the others never had any extra root options. But those
aren't very usuable anyway.

Anyway, what's my point here ? ;) I wouldn't mind having a look at your
GUI and maybe even help out a bit in coding it.

Why not make an ebuild for genview and submit it to bugs.gentoo.org?

I might do that: clean it up, ditch the root stuff (needs much more
attention to get that right) and just present it as a simple browser.
And then try to help out with Craig's project.

Sure, fine with me. Maybe we should setup a project page somewhere, you
can always mail me directly to not clutter up this list ;)
