Hi everyone,
I'm having a litte problem with my kernel and iptables here (installed
gentoo the first time yesterday, really like it!!!!). I'd be happy if
you could tell me, what my problem is or how I can find that out or
where I have to ask (in case this is not the right place).
I've installed kernel 2.4.19-r1 and iptables iptables v1.2.6a. But I
can't get iptables to work, everytime I try to modify/display the rules
it tells me:
<PASTE>
bash-2.05a# iptables -L
/lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: unresolved
symbol nf_unregister_sockopt
/lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: unresolved
symbol nf_register_sockopt
/lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod
ip_tables failed
iptables v1.2.6a: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables
who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
</PASTE>
Now as I've updated both the kernel and iptables, I'm at the end of my
wisdom, so any help is greatly appreciated! Some more information below.
Best regards,
Ralf Ronneburger
----------------------------------------------------------
depmod displays:
bash-2.05a# depmod -a
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/net/ipv4/ipip.o

I had similar unresolved symbols which i solved by recompiling the kernel after
doing a clean up with 'make mrproper' (save your .config before this step).
Also make sure the kernel, System.map and the modules all use the same
name and extraversion. This should take care of the unresolved symbols.
