* [gentoo-dev] AMD 760MPX Chipset under linux @ 2002-01-19 23:29 Jared H. Hudson 2002-01-19 19:58 ` Troels Liebe Bentsen 0 siblings, 1 reply; 6+ messages in thread From: Jared H. Hudson @ 2002-01-19 23:29 UTC (permalink / raw To: gentoo-dev [-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 767 bytes --] Does anyone know of a patch to support the AMD 760MPX chipset (AMD 762 chipset & AMD 768 pci set) under the linux kernel? I compiled in the AMD Viper IDE chipset into the kernel, which worked with the AMD 760MP chipset, apparently doesn't include support for the MPX chipset though. Currently, I have to pass noapci to the kernel to boot (although the kernel does not have APCI compilied in), also I have to set the bios to non-plug and play OS, and have to set hdparm -d1 /dev/hda manually since the kernel doesn't recognize the chipset. I've had it lock up once (using NVIDIA drivers), so I've passed the mem=nopentium option (still using the 2.4.16 kernel) so hopefully the lockup was just related to what Mr. Robbins was mentioning earlier. -Jared H. Nice to another one with this new chipset, i have the asus running SMP. I use the Plug and Play OS setting with no problem. Are you running SMP? If so, disabling MPS 1.4 makes it boot with no special options. ACPI kind of works, but still no event or temperature reading. I run with 2.4.18-pre3-ac2 it seemes to be stable and has support for the chipset. AMD7441: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 39 AMD7441: chipset revision 4 Don't know about the NVIDIA stuff, but i will test it later this week. Yes, when I include plug and play, my 3c59x modules loads with an irq of 0 and my emu10k module partially loads, displays a header, then removes itself, no error. > If so, disabling MPS 1.4 makes it boot with no special options. > ACPI kind of works, but still no event or temperature reading. What is MPS 1.4? I will try disabling it. > I run with 2.4.18-pre3-ac2 it seemes to be stable and has support for > the chipset. I just switched to the same kernel, and I noticed it did have support, although the 2.4.16 did not. > Don't know about the NVIDIA stuff, but i will test it later this week. So far adding the mem=nopentium has kept it from locking up, or it could be just a concidence, only time will tell. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 6+ messages in thread

I have several boxen that show different amount of weirdness (everything from "won't boot", to "kernel panic", to "module loading failed") unless MPS 1.4 is off. this happens on all the dual motherboards I have access to who support MPS 1.4. turning off MPS has made them rock solid. Currently I have a ASUS A7M266-D (dual athlon w/MPX chipset) All I had to add was noapic and mem=nopentium for everything to work. Granted, with the 2.4.16 kernel, it does not recognize my chipset, so I have to hdparm -d1 /dev/hda manually in order to have UDMA, but that's about it. -Jared H.
