[gentoo-dev] NEW: mysql-3.23.47

Hi, devs

I have just checked in a rather sweeping update of dev-db/mysql, and
would
appreciate some peer review/comments.  There are several significant
changes.
Here's the laundry list:

1. Databases are located in /var/lib/mysql, instead of /var/mysql
2. The /etc/init.d/mysql is massively simplified
3. The /etc/mysql/my.cnf file is rewritten
4. Several options were added to ./configure
5. The package is built using reccomended compiler flags for stability
6. Ensures a proper mysql/group account setup on your system.
7. Patches to mould the distribution into a more Gentooier package
8. Some general housekeeping in syntax, and in /usr/share/mysql
especially
9. An ebuild config function, for no-nonsense instant setup and go
capability

Hello Donny,

could you please talk about changes like this beforehand? I like
Gentoo's possibility to quickly release new packages and it's great that
it happens, but changing the installation paths of databases and the
socket name is not something one should to before consorting with others
first. After having merged the latest mysql package, I'm now stuck and
forced to migrate my databases and modify my scripts and installations
to work with the new socket path and name.

Apart from that, I appreciate the effort in maintaining mysql !
