[gentoo-dev] voodoo 3 300 && DRI?

I havent the foggiest clue why, but I dont seem to have hardware accel with 
my Voodoo 3 3000.

I have agpart and 3dfx items compiled into the kernel, and the X.log looks 
good....I built media-libs/glide-v3 (it looked right) and the latest 
X....but no accel.

Anyone else running Voodoo 3 or 5?

3dfx does not seem to get much attention on Gentoo so I would be very
interested in the answer to this as well. The only way I have been able
to do this on Redhat, Debian and Gentoo is to follow the instructions on
http://dri.sourceforge.net/
They have a very good compilation and debugging guide. Trouble is you
end up working outside the packaging system. The problem that I usually
had was that mesa's libgl would not be accelerated. You have to use the
one that get built with XFree86. Good luck.

dont have one, dont use dri, but hope this can be usefull.

to enable dri, it should be compiled into the kernel 

  Character devices:
     [*] Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 DRI support)
     [*]   Build drivers for new (XFree 4.1) DRM
     <*>   3dfx Banshee/Voodoo3+

that is just to have the kernel DRI module ...

Now, to het accel support in X, in theory you should just
to you XF86Config file, add:

Section "Module"
......
        Load  "extmod"
        Load  "dri"
        Load  "glx"             #not sure about this one
        Load  "GLcore"
........
    EndSection

X should have its own mesa libs, so not needed to compile glide-v3, but
dont quote me on this.

me too ! 
I've been playing Quake1 back in 95 or so on a p120 linux and /dev/3dfx (voodoo1)  at 1024x786 and was fragging like there was no f*cking tomorrow ! but now on my PIII500 512 SDRAM XDSL1Mbit voodoo3 3000 Quake3 just doesnt run , go damn i've been working[making my bred and butter] with linux for years now, but still cant get THAT shit working "yet" !!!

did all that stuff DRI, AGP glide blablabla mesa .... you name it :(
