I'm dying to use Gentoo on my computer at work. Right now it has one scsi
disk filled up with an NTFS partition. There are no more scsi drives
available so I put an ide drive in as well. ok so I have 1 drive on a pci
scsi controller and one drive set up as the primary master ide device. My
question is this: how I assign these drives to grub? what numbering system
do they use? I've got grub working on my laptop a thinkpad 600e fine with 2
ide hard disks and a whole bunch of OSes and paritions. grub is very
powerful and simple but I can't find any config file examples or
instructions reflecting a mix of ide and scsi devices.
I need some help installing grub for the first time and writing a menu.lst
file or .1st I always forget I just make links for both

Gentoo seems to be a fantastic distribution. Up until now I've been using
Linux From Scratch to get away from the red tape of most distributions.
(I'm also dying to install gentoo on my laptop, but I don't even want to try
a laptop installation until 1.0)

I'm using gentoo on my Laptop and it works out of the box. Ther were no
problems with the installation. I have made a quick and dirty
pcmcia-cs..ebuild
package and it works without problems.

pcmcia-cs is included in the latest kernel packages( > 2.4.4-ac3 ) but
there is no snapshot with such an kernel available at the moment. The
extras in the kernel now need special USE variables to get build "alsa
lm_sensors lvm pcmcia-cs"
