my suggestion:

/var/gentoo/distfiles
/var/gentoo/packages
/var/gentoo/repositories

/var/gentoo/repositories/layman
/var/gentoo/repositories/portage

this could be extended, like:
/var/gentoo/repositories/sth_paludis_related

It would be nice, if you'd adopted my scheme, then I don't need to change a=
