The profiles in default-linux/ have been deprecated for a while now, and
you have been seeing a message of profile switching when using emerge.
They will be entirely removed 2009-12-01. This is your last warning to
switch into new profiles using:
# eselect profile list
# eselect profile set <target>
-- cut --
Would this work?

If you don't follow this message, the emerge will simply stop working
until you do.
This change was made to ease maintenance.

Does this mean that you haven't tested it? If it's tested with the
oldest Portage version that people are expected to be using, then fine
by me. I don't think this bug comes to play here as there's only one
restriction so on that account should be safe:

The profiles in default-linux/ have been deprecated for six weeks.
Users using these profiles are expected to migrate to a new profile
before 2009-12-01, at which point the default-linux/ profiles will be
removed. The new profiles contain up to date configurations and were
adopted because they were easier to maintain. Users can switch to a
new profile using eselect:

If a machine is not migrated to a new valid profile then emerge will
have very limited functionality.

I reworded this and moved it near the top.

profiles are removed, emerge will have very limited functionality until
the migration is done.

Fine by me. Thanks.
I've tested this one working, had to add multiple Display-If-Profiles
because the GLEP and Portage doesn't support having just
"default-linux". Draft:

I encourage informal language and speaking directly to the users. Use of
"you" and "we" helps us to better connect with users through the
documentation. It also has the nice benefit of avoiding stilted
formalities and awkwardness like "one should do this..." or trying to
use "people should" or "users should".
