What exactly is _needed_ there? EAPI versions could be arbitrary strings without \n in them. I see nothing you couldn't get into that. Or are we talking about the *ebuild* versions? I see that as different matter. Plus: You could change the version format with the changed extension. I sure do hope there are no plans on making those changes as often as new EAPIs.
