Often we have someone wanting to become a dev and we need a to find a
mentor for him. What do you think about adding a status bit to LDAP that
would mark you as available for mentoring? Recruiters could then use
this info to forward people to these developers.

Regards,
Petteri

This should probably be on the -project list.

Given that, what I think is that people's willingness to mentor may
depend on the recruit. So you'd need more than a simple on/off bit,
you'd also need a "maybe" option.

Thanks,
Donnie

And probably area's of interest should be part of it. Even though I
have nothing to do with (just taking something random here) openmotif,
if someone wanted to come on board and maintain that, I'd certainly be
interested in mentoring them (same with anything that is lacking a
maintainer right now).

While I certainly agree that such a status bit is useful, there is perhaps
some more stuff that could be added. To be more exact, it might be useful to
have, say, a person who is willing to mentor someone interested in general
ebuilds/media-related stuff/fonts/X11. In this way, it is more obvious who to
contact other than a list of developers marked as 'available'.

Thanks,
Thomas
