Give me a service or something that can take a $CAT/$PN -> that data,
and I can include it in the headers for you.

my script-fo is not strong but surely this can't be difficult....

Bah, looks like I need to make more progress on that auto-assign script

What about people who parse xml with sgrep?
Parsing xml with sgrep is actually quite easy+useful.

Just awk will do all that, Roy ;)
It's a shame xmlGawk got punted, it was the best project of its ilk imnsho.
That other project[1] was deader than a dodo, vapier ;P XMLstarlet is the
other one we're looking at now: http://xmlstar.sourceforge.net/

that "other project" was started by the xmlGawk author as the replacement of
xmlGawk ... i know because we talked about it via e-mail :P
i'm not going to make a core package dependent on an external patchset again
let alone one that requires linking against cruft in /usr ... it was a pima

Ah, I see - understood then.

app-text/xml2 makes a surprisingly nice replacement for xmlgawk for
people who know not to use sed or awk on XML, yet still want to. For
example:
$ xml2 < /var/lib/repos/gentoo/sys-apps/busybox/metadata.xml \
| awk -F= '/\/herd=/ {print $2}'
embedded
$ xml2 < /var/lib/repos/gentoo/www-client/surfraw/metadata.xml \
| sed '/\/maintainer\/email=/!d;s,^.*=,,'
jnrowe@ukfsn.org
seemant@gentoo.org
or to match Vapier's output just collapse the output:
$ echo $(xml2 < /var/lib/repos/gentoo/www-client/surfraw/metadata.xml \
| awk -F '/\/maintainer\/email=/ {print $2}')
jnrowe@ukfsn.org seemant@gentoo.org
The above examples will cope with cases that will break the simple sed
version, such as "<herd>\ndata\n</herd>". But then again so does
Vapier's xsltproc solution.
As a hint for other tasks the package can cope with tagsoup too if
called with html2, and it can reassemble with 2xml/2html. There is some
documentation online at the author's website, but its usage is obvious.
Thanks,
James

People who use XML and XSLT make me cry. Lisp macros ftw.

can you tweak the URIs to use the shorter form please
iow, use:

Kudos to you all!
What we now need is the installation of some kind of peer review. For
example add to the recruitment guide a recommendation to watch the
recruitee one mentored on the commits mailing list.
All other commits should be reviewed. Arch work is normally
done in a team and all teams watch each other, so that works quite
good, as keywords are done wrong far too often.
Any ideas about an efficient way to establish such a process?

Can we see how often the list gets used first? Maybe things will
improve in the next bit of time and we don't need any extra formal
process. I have no problem adding to the guide that mentors should
watch mentees commits (that is technically already required even
though many do not). I'd rather have a bunch of people pointing out
problems on commits in an ad-hoc manner than have 'All Commits
Reviewed(TM)' ;)

As some devs already asked me on IRC/Jabber/whatever, I want
to quote that part:
* Robin H. Johnson <robbat2@gentoo.org> [07/09/07 00:01 -0700]:

We are aware, that there are some information in the gecos
field, which is not relevant. Like the mentor, or the
initial herd. And that some entries were not converted to
UTF-8. Just give robbat2 some time and he will fix that ;-)

Ok, with 3 exceptions, absolutely everybody has sane data in LDAP.
If you have information on the following users,
I'd really love to hear it:
jerrya
horton
luke-jr
I'm looking for:
- Real name, given name and surname (I know this is pointless for
luke-jr)
- Alternative email addresses (I have one other email for luke-jr, I
don't know if it's any good still).
- Location.
- Roles they played in Gentoo.
Lastly, if your name contains some fun unicode, then I had to
transliterate it for the gecos field in LDAP, as it has to be pure 7-bit
ASCII. If you don't like your translitation, and can suggest one that is more
correct, and still 7-bit ASCII, please drop me a line.

No real name, I dunno his email address, but he used to be in CT when he
joined up. He joined to work on the installer project.

I think jerrya is the same as jerry, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
