Dear All,
Trustees voting did actually finish over a month ago. It's high time
for the official announcement. This year's Board of Trustees for the
Gentoo Foundation has been reduced to 5 people, instead of 13. That was
something we wanted a vote on, in addition to the regular board,
however, only 5 people were nominated. Thus, they formed the new board:
I present to you, then, the new Board of Trustees:
Chris Gianelloni (wolf31o2)
Grant Goodyear (g2boojum)
Stuart Herbert (stuart)
Seemant Kulleen (seemant)
Renat Lumpau (rl03)
We will schedule the first Board Meeting for this year, for sometime
this month, hopefully.
Please note that the board is 60% new, so please do welcome the new
members.
Thanks!

What vote? I don't remember one.

There wasn't a vote, since the number of nominations equalled the number
of candidates. There was a thread on gentoo-core mailing list with the
nominees, and the movement seemed to be toward simply accepting the
nominees as trustees.
Thanks,

5 nominees, 5 positions. Did you want a popularity contest among them?

Hmm, wasn't there some sort of question as to whether or not simply
accepting them was valid under current policy? I seem to recall that
somebody was going to look into this, but I could also be totally

A Debian-style "reopen nominations" option with a vote would make more
sense...

I wouldn't oppose this at all if that's what the foundation members
want. However, this issue has languished on -core precisely due to
non-interest. So if you can rile up the people to rise up and demand
this, or something, you'll definitely impress with me :)

I just remembered something. Didn't Stuart say that he planned on
leaving Gentoo when he was nominated for the Council recently (and
declined)?

Yes I did. There are a few things I want to achieve before I leave;
being on the Council would have been a distraction from that.

Not trying to be confused - its a natural state for me. Does this mean
you are not a trustee (declining the role) and so there is still 1 slot
open?

No, you are mixing council and trustee.

Actually, I *think* he was trying to ask why Stuart feels that he can
take on the responsibility of being a trustee if he felt that he didn't
have the time to take on the responsibility of being a council member.
I also must admit that I'm curious of the answer to that in light of the
fact that he admittedly plans on leaving Gentoo sometime soon.

I'm not particularly opposed.
In any event, we're going to need a way to identify foundation members.
I've asked agriffis to generate a list of members as of the last
election, and anybody not on that list who's been a dev for a year
is eligible to join. My tentative plan was to have current and wannabe
members vote to approve or reject each of the nominees, and those who
are eligible who vote then become members of the Foundation. If people
would prefer to simply have a "reopen nominations (yes/no)" vote,
that would be fine with me.
I'm afk tomorrow, but I'll read any comments once I return.

To save everyone a bit of time, it'd be quicker just to read the
existing thread on -core where I explained why I was standing as a
trustee.
