I think that cairo, logrotate, openexr, udev and vnc USE flags should be global. These are now local USE flags.
Do you agree to change their globalness?

Gotta say why along with that.

Local use flags:
cairo: 15
logrotate: 8
openexr: 11
udev: 6
vnc: 6
And the descriptions seem to be pretty much the same in all of them from
use.local.desc

I think we agreed at least 3 times on that the logrotate use flag
shouldn't exist at all because those files add <4kb to the package.
About the udev, there's one package that doesn't share the effect:
sys-apps/pcmciautils:udev - Install as an udev helper instead of a
hotplug helper
Which is different from the other 5 "Enable udev rules file installation".

Right. Open a bug and cc involved maintainers. This is the way it works -
maybe slowly, but it does. We see people come and go and no one has the time
to assure to have read all threads in this list. A bug stays open as long as
it is relevant.

Two packages. Question is, if there is an argument not to install udev rules.

No we didn't. It's another file in /etc, which is entirely different
from another file not in /etc.

Please look at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel/35754 .
I said it once, I'm saying again: squid need this USE flag.

My recollection was that the argument against having a logrotate USE
flag that meant "please install a logrotate script" was that it was
unnecessary since the user could just mask out /etc/logrotate.d
instead (using INSTALL_MASK) if those scripts weren't desired.

udev USE flag is set defaultly in the following files:
# find /usr/portage/profiles/ -name make.defaults -exec grep -l udev {} \;
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/alpha/2006.0/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/alpha/no-nptl/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/alpha/2006.1/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2006.0/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2006.1/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/sparc/sparc32/2006.0/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/sparc/sparc32/2006.1/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/sparc/sparc64/2006.0/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/sparc/sparc64/2006.1/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc32/2006.0/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc32/2006.1/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc64/2006.0/64bit-userland/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc64/2006.0/32bit-userland/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc64/2006.0/multilib/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc64/2006.1/64bit-userland/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc64/2006.1/32bit-userland/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ppc/ppc64/2006.1/multilib/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/amd64/2006.1/make.defaults
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ia64/2006.0/make.defaults
Is this flag there because of "Enable udev rules file installation" or because of "Install as an udev helper instead of a hotplug helper"?
