If there were, it would be because of broken ebuilds. That should be reported as bugs and fixed instead of relying on revdep-rebuild. About revdep-rebuild, that is an ugly kludge that is only there to aleviate that portage does not record the metadata needed to know what should be rebuilded without having lib files searched. In 99% of the cases it is also not needed to use it, and those people advocating its use should probably put their attention into fixing portage that it records and uses information about what package was used to satisfy what dependency.
