You can also have a look on this one:

What you want is part of its features (when setting
PORT_SHORTLOGDIR in make.conf). It was last updated against
portage 2.0.50-r1 though, but if there is some interest for it, i
can try to find time to rework it. Anyway, even for my personal
use, i miss it since I had to stop maintaining it. Emerge is sooo
verbose...
