Before you get too invalved in writing code for this, take a look at this bug. http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11359 The final patch I posted to ebuild.sh (comment #103) does the first part of this -- collecting the messages in a single file, and I have been told that something similar to this will be implemented after portage 2.0.51 is released.
