Except that people would actually use it, despite all the warnings to the contrary, and then they'll moan when their system gets totally screwed up. Marking something as "do not use this if you care about your system" will just encourage certain (rather vocal) users to try it. Said users will then carry on submitting unrelated bugs, even though we tell them not to. A "tainted" flag in "emerge info" wouldn't help either. We already have users who deliberately lie about what CFLAGS and gcc version they're using when submitting bugs. Also, this tree would have to be kept *entirely* separate from the main tree. It's possible for a rogue ebuild to screw up the entire tree. This brings us back to BMG, for example. -- Ciaran McCreesh, Gentoo XMLcracy Member G03X276 (Sparc, MIPS, Vim, si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes) Mail: ciaranm at gentoo.org Web: http://dev.gentoo.org/~ciaranm --Signature=_Fri__21_May_2004_17_33_12_+0100_qzm68UYWvGdhdJTV Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAri9O96zL6DUtXhERAneRAKDUgR9WzrGsPSwO4FaqypMfqpRC/wCeJ7Ui kr5hq6KTDZaGVYVNqubkgfQ= =cUIo -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Signature=_Fri__21_May_2004_17_33_12_+0100_qzm68UYWvGdhdJTV--
