Hiya,

Just a quick note to say that we're now ready to start moving ebuilds across
to the new webapp.eclass approach.

I've committed a new, improved webapp-config v1.1, which includes man pages
for the eclass, config file and admin utility. I'm sure the docs can be
improved on, but we now have the basics covered.

What I need now are devs to try using the new eclass and users to try using
the new webapp-config tool, please ;-) I'm also desperate for volunteers to
help improve the documentation. A Gentoo Guide to virtual hosting would be
great ;-)

Best regards,
Stu

I've just given webapp-config a whirl with squirrelmail-1.4.2-r5. Most
of what I have to say is: "good job!".

A couple of questions:
Is there any reason to insist that apps get installed in
whatever/htdocs? I notice that VHOST_ROOT doesn't include the htdocs
part--could it, so that users can change (or remove) it?

And specific to squirrelmail: the data directory needs to be owned by
apache (not root). I don't know if this is a fault of webapp-config or
the squirrelmail ebuild.

Why would you want to remove the htdocs directory?

VHOST_ROOT doesn't include the htdocs part, because ebuilds can install files
to live above the htdocs directory.

If you really want to change how this works, you can edit the variables
further down /etc/vhosts/webapp-config.

Which version of webapp-config are you using?

Simply because I had apache (mis)configured to serve straight from the
vhost directory, not from htdocs.

I see. Again, I think this comes from me running a somewhat notstandard
(probably stupid) vhost layout.
