Hi all,
The following packages are currently unmaintained upstream and I'd like
to drop them (package.mask'ing first and cvs removing after some time)
if noone steps up to do that:
app-portage/kportage
app-portage/kemerge
app-portage/gentoo-stats
kportage is already broken, the gentoo-stats service is down and kemerge
didn't have a new version for over a year is very likely broken (didn't
test it).

I thought one of the devs was going to pick up kportage. I know it's
broken now but I would hate to see it sink without trace.

I don't use kportage to emerge but I find it handy to browse the various
packages. I'd hate to see it go.

It is going to be rewritten more likely. By whom is the question. ;)
As mentioned in the GWN thingy, if nobody else does, i will in a few months.

It might just be me, but I think KPortage should be rewritten to be a
toolkit-independent tool with KDE Control Center, GNOME's equivalent, and
generic X11 frontends...
Depending on how the code is (I haven't looked yet), it might actually be
easier to start from scratch anyway.

If you want a "toolkit-independent tool," you might as well just write
another toolkit that abstracts the various toolkits. (Of course, then
you might decide you need to make the tool independent of the toolkit
abstracter, and so you write another toolkit to abstract the
abstracter.) This all seems like a lot of work to make the buttons
match...

Too bad nobody's made a toolkit abstraction toolkit yet. It'd be nice if GTK
and Qt had wrappers to use each other.

There is wxGTK, so you just have to write a QT port for wxWindows.

Check out anygui. http://anygui.sourceforge.net.
GTK, Qt, curses, some legacy platform called win32, and others.

Interesting project! Browsing through CVS and I'm not seeing anything updated
any sooner than 9 months ago.. Doesn't look like it has any active
developments and it's only at a 0.1 version. Too bad..
This would be adding Yet Another unmaintained package to portage.. :-(

Cool. I wonder how complex it is/isn't to get it to go a bit further so it can
be a KDE Control Center module (and GNOME's equivalent)...

I've package.mask'ed kemerge and all existing versions of gentoo-stats
now. kemerge will be removed by the end of the year, mksoft is taking
care of future gentoo-stats development.
