Hi,
does anything exist in portage equal to the FreeBSD mergemaster (merging new configuration files to the old ones)?
I wrote a script that works fine for me but maybe there is a more general solution?

Try etc-update

/usr/sbin/etc-update is doing exactly the task you want.

And before you point it out: Yes, etc-update is a bit of a pain to use
(it was much worse before:). We are working on fixing the usability issues
with it.
