Nothing in /var/tmp should be expected to continue to exist any longer than 
the process which created them is running. They usually do, but they should 
not be expected to.

As it is right now, there is no choice. Implementation of the idea would add 
an option, and emerging linux-src would do the same as emerging 
vanilla-sources does right now.
