It h= as=20 two main responsibilities, the first one is to manage all current desktop=20 packages (delegated to the appropriate subprojects). The second one is to research (yes research) how the gentoo desktop experie= nce=20 can be improved. That includes things like the menusystem. Some sensible=20 session system (resp. for starting a windowmanager, which is currently quit= e=20 nonstandard and depending on the display manager (not windowmanager)) and I= 'm=20 sure there will be enough other things. That research leads sometimes to proposed changes. Each of these changes wi= ll=20 be judged according to a.o. how easy it is to implement them, how standard= =20 they are, whether they conform to the gentoo way, etc. The general idea being that if it is possible everything should just work=20 after the emerge command has been completed. This also might involve changi= ng=20 default configuration files to work with the way things are installed in=20 gentoo (like specifying the correct location of programs). This does howeve= r=20 not mean that just anything can be changed in the default configurations.=20 Look and feel should be as standard as possible. (for example k3b should ju= st=20 work out of the box and know allready where cdrecord is installed, etc.) Paul =2D --=20 Paul de Vrieze Gentoo Developer Mail: pauldv@gentoo.org Homepage: http://www.devrieze.net =2D----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/TdixbKx5DBjWFdsRAgz4AKC9sEqynIKPJx3kjH2jnTyZoAO4GgCdHkbf QXy4VrIhBJYhopiXDq3U9ac=3D =3D4lDC =2D----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- gentoo-dev@gentoo.org mailing list
