Forwarding in case somebody knows the answer.  Oleg Khlybov wrote the
menumaker package that I just added to portage.

Maybe this is a bit offtopic, but regarding the menumaker, menus situation:

Svyatogor an I are currently writing a programm to streamline menus in gentoo, 
like the debian menu package. Our system is based on the freedesktop.org 
standards: http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/desktop-entry-spec/, 
http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/menu-spec/.
