how does this look for the text to explain F? oh, and it would be
nice to be able to say "postpone F-related packages" via a switch or
something, they make "emerge -U world" break rather annoyingly and
await user interaction.
I'm sorry for not producing a patch, but I'm not exactly sure where
the emerge documentation source is located. :-)
[ebuild F ] media-video/realplayer-8-r6
The realplayer ebuild requires you to download sources
manually for it to install the package. Instructions on how
and what to download is usually given by the package when you
attempt to install it. Please not that currently, portage
will halt the merge process when it reaches such a package.

it's in cvs with the rest of the portage package ... gentoo-src/portage/man/
... besides, you could have always just done a diff against your local copy
of the manpage.

if I find a good solution, I will. ;-)

I wasn't quite expecting that the documentation is actually kept in
*roff. :-)

heres an idea, in the case of an emerge -U world, instead of postponing
F-related packages, portage could ask for all of them to be downloaded up
front. might require a new variable, but I think that feature would make
emerge world's more smooth.
just my two cents

Both would be best. For those who do unattended "emerge -U world", postponing
would be better. I personally would prefer to use the "up front" approach,
though.
