Are they really equivalent to the wine drinkers? For example, the
providers of virtual/smtp are equivalent programs to all the programs
requiring /usr/lib/sendmail to exist. Are the consumers of wine
ambivalent to which vintage is installed?

most apps that build against wine don't care which wine they use.

Great, I have no objections to virtual/wine, in that case...

Instead of virtual/wine, perhaps virtual/win32 would be better? After all,
Gentoo Windows (aka Gentoo Cygwin) would probably use the actual Win32
libraries and not a WINE...

I agree, a virtual/win32 will probably not work. Most applications that want
wine expect the wine environment. They don't expect actual windows. Of
course, in case we have a win32 port the wine dependency can be made
dependent on that (!win32? (virtual/wine) )

I honesly don't know anything about cygwin or how it works, but the main
reason of intreducing the wine virtual is so that apps can compile and link
against winelib. together with the wine-config tool I am working on will
enable users to link against diffrent versions of wine without a problem.

Any apps which would link against WINE should also be able to link against the
native Win32 libraries just as well. Therefore, it's not a dependency on
WINE, but a dependency on an implementation of the Win32 libraries.

Not exactly. E.g.: I have an app here which expects to see winebuild tool in
order to compile. You are NOT gonna find it on windows. This just a short
example of diffs between win32 and wine.

Well then, perhaps there should be two virtuals... virtual/wine for apps which
actually need the WINE environment (I've never seen one of these...) and
virtual/win32 for applications that need the Win32 libraries in some form.

Add to virtual/win32 that the win32 headers should also be available.
