[gentoo-dev] GLEP: gentoo bugday

I've submitted a draft for a new GLEP proposing a bugday once a month 
(http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/glep/glep-0006.html). Now I would like to get 
some input from the community about some details. I'm thinking it should 
involve the users as much as possible not just the devs. Possibly users could 
team up with devs to help them fix things and get them committed. I would 
like to get input on when to do the bug days. i.e. do we want to do it the 
same day each month, or schedule them in proximity to other events (releases, 
etc.). Any other input, flames, requests to jump off a bridge are welcome.

A QA period where nothing but bugfixing is done is a great idea; maybe
even a week-long package freeze on a regular basis.

By being regular about fixing issues and doing QA checking on packages
we can do a lot of catchup.

This may also tie into the stable/unstable branch idea. A time-period in
which ebuild maintainers can move their packages into stable may prove
more efficient than dedicating a QA team to this task.

Definitely worth discussion ;)

I like the idea - for myself, I would suggest weekend-ish days as being best since with work, etc., I know that my weekday time is spent. Of course, there's a 130+ devs and readers of -dev to chime in yet ;)

I think this is a great idea....
Weekend-ish days would be best, as Michael stated. On a side note..
maybe there could be a form of prize at the end, to provide another
motivating factor? Just an idea :D

We did something like this inside the ppc-team now several
times, and we try to do it every weekend.  I must say, it is
really productive.  We closed more than half of our bugs.

It is a good suggestion that other teams would also
introduce a bug-day.

I like the idea.  I agree we need to have a predictable schedule of freezes 
for QA; I've personally advocated this for some time... along with a 
general release schedule (say, one release every 6 months).

I would prefer one week of QA freeze out of every two months.   That would 
amount to one (1) month total of QA per year.   But any regular schedule of 
freezes is welcome, IMO.
