Hi guys.

I would like to propose a creation of new category - dev-ada which will
incidentally serve to host ada related stuff in portage. Right now we have
gnat in dev-lang and there are 7+ packages for the core libs and environment
in bugzilla ready to go into portage and there are good chances of getting
more, after the core packages get settled. Therefore I think new category
would be quite usefull.

In a related news: we are going to have a new developer responsible for the
category :) (I hope everybody sees the pattern here ;)).
Please welcome David Holm (nick Musuuitsuchi) who has quite a bit of
experience with ada and even creates some bindings of his own. He hails from
the cold lands of Sweden. After getting throught the tutoring phase he will
become an official maintainer of dev-ada category and other ada related
stuff.

As usual, I am going to wait until the end of the week and unless there are
objections will add the category and start populating it.

George

Welcome, David! I have the highest respect for you for working on the
gnat and related ebuilds. I once served my time on gnat, 5 years ago...

It was a grueling experience that I hope to forget eventually. ;-)

Welcome and good luck!

Aron

Hello and thank you =).
I know exactly what you mean. It took me 10 compiles to get ada support compiled with gcc (and
we all now how long it takes to bootstrap gcc ;) only to realize it was too buggy to suit my
needs anyway.

These days too many distributions suffer from the "gcc-ada must be better than gnat"-disease and
I didn't want gentoo to end up there as well. So many people don't take ada seriously and
most of those who do use the commercial release anyway.

I hope that if you want to use ada again you will find the experience positive in gentoo =).
