[gentoo-dev] Make mad use flag global

Hi all,

The mad use flag which enables use of the media-sound/mad mpeg decoder is 
currently local to the app-games/scummvm package. kde-base/arts (in its cvs 
state anyway) can also optionally use mad - right now the dep is always 
enabled. Other packages will likely make use of the flag in the future. I 
propose to make the mad use flag global and use it in the arts ebuild, and 
will do so unless someone objects.

ive had other packages that could optionally utilize mad, i just usually made 
it a requirement ;)

Well, that being the only reaction I got, I'll make the mad flag global (and 
use it in the arts package) unless there are objections posted RSN.

Now that we have a global mad use flag, how about making it on by default? Or 
would linking it to media-sound/mad be enough? Opinions?

Also, how do I go about getting the various profiles (make.defaults or use.
defaults) changed? I probably shouldn't commit to profiles I don't use; mad 
has sparc/alpha/ppc stable keywords (in addition to x86), could the people 
for those archs please make the necessary changes (once it's decided what the 
changes should be)?

No, it should be on per default, not merely linked to media-sound/mad,
 since more and more software goes over to using libmad for its mp3
decoding purpouse (in favour of mpg123 library support)  to have it
off-per-default would render a desktop machine rather hard to use.

Fine by me. So sparc/alpha/ppc devs, please update your profiles. I will 
update x86-default-1.4 make.defaults now.
