Hello developers,

being alarmed by some security issues I was trying to update my KDE 3.1
installation to 3.1.1(a) via "emerge kde".

In kdelibs I got:

cpp
knotifydialog.cpp:625: no `void
   KNotify::KNotifyWidget::slotItemClicked(QListViewItem*, const QPoint&,
int)'
   member function declared in class `KNotify::KNotifyWidget'
knotifydialog.cpp: In member function `void
   KNotify::KNotifyWidget::reload(bool)':
knotifydialog.cpp:712: `class KNotify::KNotifyWidget' has no member named `
   selectItem'
knotifydialog.cpp: In member function `virtual void
   KNotify::KNotifyWidget::enableAll(int, bool)':
knotifydialog.cpp:871: `selectItem' undeclared (first use this function)
knotifydialog.cpp:871: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for
   each function it appears in.)
In file included from knotifydialog.cpp:1070:
knotifydialog.moc: In member function `virtual bool
   KNotify::KNotifyWidget::qt_invoke(int, QUObject*)':
knotifydialog.moc:269: `slotItemClicked' undeclared (first use this function)
make[3]: *** [knotifydialog.lo] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory
`/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.1.1a/work/kdelibs-3.1.1/kio/kfile'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.1.1a/work/kdelibs-3.1.1/kio'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: kde-base/kdelibs-3.1.1a failed.
!!! Function kde_src_compile, Line 123, Exitcode 2
!!! died running emake, kde_src_compile:make

and that was that. I don't know whether this is another problem with a missing
USE var (I still stay with the defaults) and I'm sorry if this appears to be
just another "empty complaint" to Mr. Kulleen. All I can say is: There were
NO problems getting the latest KDE sources compiled and installed on another
RedHat machine.

BTW it turned out, I'm no longer able to update the qt-installation. I got:

root@duron etc # emerge --pretend -v qt

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild    U ] media-libs/fontconfig-2.1-r1 [2.1]
[ebuild  N   ] x11-libs/xft-2.0.1-r2
[blocks B    ] =kde-base/kdebase-3.1 (from pkg x11-libs/qt-3.1.2-r1)
[ebuild    U ] x11-libs/qt-2.3.2-r1 [3.1.0-r1] +gif +opengl -nas
[blocks B    ] =kde-base/kdelibs-3.1 (from pkg x11-libs/qt-3.1.2-r1)
[ebuild    U ] x11-libs/qt-3.1.2-r1 [3.1.0-r1] +cups -nas -postgres +opengl
+gif

While on RedHat, KDE is based upon QT, Gentoo got it made to reverse the
dependencies! I have no idea how to get out of this situation other than
doing another "/usr/local" installation manually like I did with mplayer.

Best regards.

michael
