[*] /dev file system support (EXPERIMENTAL)
  [*]   Automatically mount at boot                    <=========== !!!
(Required for Gentoo Linux.)

It used to be recommended to NOT use "Automatically mount at boot" with
gentoo...
Did this change without my noticing it or is this really an error in the doc?

regards
tigor

I always mount by default. I'm also working to remove the compatibility
symlinks from my system.. =)

It should not matter either way.

Well, I have only removed a few of them so far. I have not taken the time
to remove them all, but for example a symlink you know that you do not use
can be disabled in /etc/devfsd like so:

REGISTER ^floppy IGNORE

This goes at the beginning of the devfsd.conf, before these lines:

REGISTER .* MKOLDCOMPAT
UNREGISTER .* RMOLDCOMPAT
REGISTER .* MKNEWCOMPAT
UNREGISTER .* RMNEWCOMPAT

I haven't looked at the source to know which of these I can do away with
yet, so my devfsd.conf is getting large. I do intend to eventually be
able to remove both.

Thanks!!!! I did this so far:

#REGISTER .* MKOLDCOMPAT
#UNREGISTER .* RMOLDCOMPAT

REGISTER hd* MKOLDCOMPAT
UNREGISTER hd* RMOLDCOMPAT

This makes hd* available (I think /dev/ide/host.... is way to long to type :-)

It worked nice except that in my everyday workstatition, I need to register
dsp, mixer, and md. The last one, md, could be "fixed" by patching
/etc/init.d/halt.sh; and dsp, mixer, etc., by patching emu10k1 (this is only
a guess.)

With best regards,
Norberto

Bah... Ignore that hd* thing (it's wrong.) This is my (complete) fresh new
/etc/devfsd.conf:

UNREGISTER ^v4l/.* RMOLDCOMPAT

REGISTER .* MKNEWCOMPAT
UNREGISTER .* RMNEWCOMPAT

The system (my everyday WS) is working nice so far... I just need to burn some
CDs and watch DVDs. I'll do it ASAP :-)
