Hi,

I emerged glibc-2.3.2_pre1 and noticed that it breaks vmware-workstation.
I read somewhere on the web that it has to do with errno related
functions. The error I get from VMware is:

XIO: fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server ":0.0"
after 2831 requests (2830 known processed) with 99 events remaining.

When I downgrade back to glibc-3.2.1-r3 the problem dissapears.

Regards,

Gertjan

I have the same problem. Anyone now about a solution other than
downgrading glibc? I unfortunately need vmware to use my internet bank and
I'm too lazy to downgrade glibc ;)

I found a fix on vmware.linux.experimental

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=m37kcfo38v.fsf%40fischman.org

I followed these instructions and it solved the problem, however vmware
only runs when I'm root. I'll let you know if I find a way around this.

I've downloaded the VMWare 4.0 beta from the website and it appears to work on
the latest (pre-)glibc. Note that you can't use your existing license with it
(you'll have to get a beta serial from the site).

Is there someone who knows wether it is better to file a bug report in
Gentoo's bugzilla, or if a posting enough? If it is better to file a
report I'll do so. Because I think this is a serious bug for people using
VMware and have "~arch" in there make.conf.

several bugs are already filed on this if you check in bugzilla...
